Hello, Binghamton!
After a couple of short flights, Wendy and I arrived safely in Binghamton, NY. It’s an older town that is in the middle of trying to remake itself. It’s also the home of The Lost Dog Cafe, a local hole in the wall that Wendy and I will be checking out as soon as we can.
Funny thing about that, too (well, funny if you like ironic things as much as I do, and speaking of ironic, it rhymes with moronic and there’s a reason why). We’re here to attend a Church Planters Bootcamp and have been reading Planting Missional Churches by Ed Stetzer. The book talks A TON about how we need to be a part of places where the lost are that we’re reaching. So, when we asked one of the people at the conference where The Lost Dog was, they grimaced and said they’d heard it was a “night place,” which I can only assume means they’re open late and have lost people. As we walked away, I said to Wendy that I thought that was the point of what we’re reading. Anyway, we’re definitely going. Maybe more than once.
Hello, Binghamton.
Now that’s ugly…
In the “Go figure” category, I can’t believe that anyone would want to purchase something as disgusting as the Ugly People PowerPoint that we’ve been using for years over at That Youth Thing when we talk about the ugliness of our sins, but sure enough, we’ve had 2 people buy downloads since yesterday. Hmmm, at that pace it would be 365 in a year, 730 in 2, factor an extra day for leap year so that after 3 years it’s…
Anyway, it’s pretty cool to see these resources spreading around and being used. Go figure.
Chosen puppies
1 Thessalonians 1:4
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you…
Early this morning, when she should have been asleep, Sydney was lying in her bed, eyes open, smiling. Of course, there’s no way I could leave that alone and so I went in, sat on her bed, and started rubbing her head.
While I’m running my fingers through her hair, she’s petting the top of her newest stuffed animal, a white puppy that her cousin won for her at the SC State fair last week-end. She actually had been given a brown one, but changed her mind and asked the man at the game if she could have the white one instead. Like a man who had been around females for any length of time, he wisely said yes and switched them. Anyway, back to this morning.
Sydney thought it was funny that I was rubbing her on the head and she was rubbing “light puppy” (that’s actually the name) on the head at the same time. Her eyes got big as she smiled, and then she looked up at me and said, “I’m glad I picked this one.”
Gamecocks, Vols choke
With the first quarter almost over, the Gamecocks are turning in a terrible performance against Vanderbilt and trail 10-0. Stay tuned…
…at halftime, USC is down 17-6 and Tennessee is down 24-17. If both lose, it really changes next week’s game in Knoxville (which I will be at, by the way). Gamecocks are driving in the third quarter…
…they drove their title hopes a bit further away. Today the Gamecocks proved that they probably aren’t ready to play with the big buys just yet. For crying out loud, you lose at home to the last placed team and have multiple turnovers in the red zone? Makes you want to puke.
