Make 704 Happen
It’s been something that has been discussed, dreamed, planned, and debated for years, but once again That Youth Thing is making a push to bring a youth center to the students of Stanly County. With just under 12,000 students in the area, there has never been more of a need than there is now to provide them a place to go that will close the ever-increasing gap between the church and their culture. Our prayer is that 704 will be able to do just that. You can follow the movement at the official campaign website, make704happen.com.
Ignite is coming
The theme for this year’s Stanly County Youth Revival is “IGNITE” and I’m going to be involved on a number of levels. That Youth Thing’s worship band will be leading the music each night and I’m speaking the last 2 nights. In a “full circle” kind of occurrence, the speaker for the first 2 nights is Adrian Dupres, a great guy who I went to seminary with and actually bought a mobile home from way back in yesteryear!
40 Rocks Design Studio also got to design the fliers for this year’s revival and what we came up with is the image above. Phil Baucom came up with the cool flame logo in the bottom right corner of the poster. I am surrounded by cool people, and that makes my life a lot fuller and a whole lot more fun!

A little spit shine
One of the things I do is design. It started out as a hobby but has grown into a small business that provides a bit more income every now and then. It also allows me to grow in my design capabilities. I just finished up a redesign job for Xterra Uwharrie and thought I’d post the before and after pics here.
One of the things that makes for good design is a logical flow of information on the page. Most clients that need a redesign have found their pages growing like monsters without good flow. They just add another piece here and there until it has grown into a huge, disorganized mess. Good design fixes that by drawing the eye to what matters most. One this redesign, the red font draws the eye to the date at the top first, and the sponsors on the left second. In the original design, the eye has no boundaries and therefore, no direction to follow.
Anyway, click the thumbnails for a closer look at the before and after screenshots.
What’s up, Chuck?
Still not sure who I’ll be voting sure, but I am sure of 2 things:
- It won’t be a Democrat
- This is the best commercial so far
