While I was away
Quite a bit happened while I was down at the Spring Breakaway with the youth from First Assembly in Concord. None of them, by the way, are earth-shattering or will, in any way, altar the course of your destiny.
- My blog passed the 10k view mark. I am, slowly but surely, seeking to dethrone The Blogging King.
- I went from a 2 way tie with The Blogging King at the top of the TYT Bracket Buster tourney to a dismal 4th place. As it turns out, picking Tennessee to win it all was dumb. What is dumber is that I knew that as soon as I picked them but did not change it when I could have. Hopefully, I can hold on and beat Matt. On a side note, The Bligging Kong also fell from first and is now in second. Ironically, the person who joked about UNC and Davidson playing in the Final Four is in first place. We all bow to the greatness that is Ryan.
- Davidson came within inches of beating Kansas. I almost cried.
- The Klogging Bing changed a post title to try and make me look stupid. I think that’s funny because he didn’t have to go to such great lengths to reveal what most already know to be true about me.
Spring Breakaway
The family and I are down at Garden City, SC, for a week-end with the students from 365, the youth ministry of First Assembly in Concord, NC. Last night was the first service and it was off the charts good. God showed up just like He always does and the worship was intense. I got to hear the student worship band do some rocking worship songs like God of This City by Passion and Hear us From Heaven by Jared Anderson.
I spoke on getting new wineskins and got to deliver one of my favorite messages, Beautiful Brokenness. I love doing the Giant Hershey bar illustration at the end of that message and the teens ate it up – literally. Lots of response to the Lord at the altar followed by some courageous students stepping up for deliverance from porn and eating disorders.
Tonight we deal with getting the new wine poured into our new wineskins. I’m expecting God to blow us completely away by what He does. More on that tomorrow (or really late tonight if I’m still up after the service winds down).
Thanks to all of you who are lifting our ministry up to the Lord this week-end. God has heard you and is answering!
It’s over.
Well, it only took the third game of the second week-end for my chance of winning the TYT Bracket Buster challenge to go up in smoke. In a blur of predictions and choices without any real plan, I somehow ended up with Tennessee winning the whole tourney, which, of course, was a crazy pick because their style of play is so street-ballish (new phrase!!) that there was no way they were going to string 6 good games together. But, alas, them winning it all would have done my heart good. Now, I just have Davidson to pull for, which will keep my happy until sometime around 9 tonight.
Of course, the winner of the TYT Bracket Busters will still be a TYT employee. Here’s an early tip of the hat to The Blogging King, who is good at predicting games but bad at math.
How to preach to a thief
Thanks to Matt Miller for the link. I want to be like her when I’m 92. Wait, I don’t want to be a woman, just a strong, powerful, faith-filled person like her.
This is how you preach Jesus to people (and also how to get a thief to kiss you).
You’ve been so patient
Thanks to all of you blog readers (can I just call you “bleaders” since it sounds so cool?) for being patient while my blog has been experiencing a month of extreme slowness. I’m sure all 3 of you are frustrated having to wait so long to read the incredible amounts of wisdom in each new post, and I can assure you that it’s been just as frustrating trying to actually post stuff with all the slow loading.
Anyway, I’ve got my people looking into it and will hopefully hear something tomorrow about what’s been causing it. In the meantime, brew a cup and by then the next post you want to read will be loaded.
