Do we always have to spend more than we make?

FOXNews.com – Banker Buys $37 Million Apartment After Getting $25 Million Buyout — for Doing Virtually Nothing

So the latest punching bag in the mess that is American economics is 55 year-old Peter Kraus.  He got an executive job at Merrill Lynch right before they got bought out and, after working the position for a matter of days, he got a 25 million dollar buyout.

Of course, everyone’s upset because he got such a big buyout when the company had just gotten a bigger bailout and that he used it to buy something so lavish when so many were losing their jobs and life savings.  I don’t necessarily disagree with that, but I think more people are just upset because they didn’t get paid 25 mil for a week of work, too.

What caught my attention is the fact that he had 25 million dollars cash and still chose to finance 12 million for the apartment.  Stupid.  Typical, stupid American excess.

Final: Rutgers 29, Wolfpack 23

ESPN – North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights Box Score, December 29 2008 – NCAA College Football

Great example of all the eggs in one basket.  Russell Wilson gets hurt, offense gets 5 yards in 3rd quarter.  Nice try by Daniel Evans, but the one thing we learned is that Harrison Beck absolutely sucked.  We need a real backup QB or we’re sunk every time Wilson goes out.

Halftime: Wolfpack 17, Rutgers 6

One more half to go and we put a great finish on a good season. I really like where we’re headed. Russell Wilson is a great QB.

Read this over on Sports Illustrated’s site in a Peter King column. He’s one of my favorite sports columnists and he wrote about asking a member of the Detroit Lions what now-fired head coach Rod Marinelli said to the team after their final game of the first 0-16 season in NFL history.

“The room got very quiet,” Hanson (the team’s placekicker) said. “Rod is a very good man. He thanked us for fighting to the end. But he said to us, ‘This is us. We own this. We did this. So man up.’ ”

That’s our quote. An amazing testimony to personal responsibility in an age and culture that blames everyone else for its problems.

This is us. We own this. We did this. So man up.
- Rod Marinelli

Wow. I didn’t know it was that high.

I just checked my blog stats and saw that I’ve had 45,999 page views since I started down this blogging road. That means that if you’re reading this, you may very well have been the person who put me over the 46,000 milestone. If I knew who you were and where you lived, I’d send you a cookie.
