704 gets some press love!

704 is making headlines!

I’ve noticed that it’s been a month since I added a blog entry, and so I’ve been thinking about what would be the best “first” story to post on my way back to blogging consistency. I’m pretty sure I can’t come up with a better one than the story that appeared in the Stanly News and press last week.

Now, what makes it funny is that I never even knew it was getting written. I had spoken at the Greater Oakboro Business Association luncheon about 704, and a reporter from the SNAP had asked afterwards if it would be okay for her to mention the 704 project in her article. Of course I said yes, but I assumed she would have something like “and Paul Jenkins shared about 704″ buried in an article about the actual meeting. Imagine my surprise when I turned the page of the paper and saw the following article splashed across the width of page 10A.

So, 704 is now “officially” out of the closet. Hang on, cause it will only get crazier from here.

You can see the entire story here.

Great time with the guys

I had a great time with a group of pastors touring the Bobcats arena. Sydney came along too, since she wasn’t feeling good.

The tour was brief and we didn’t see Michael Jordan. Oh well.

Shocked with the Truth

This past week I got to be a part of an incredible “Dream Team” of pastors, educators and health care professionals that presented a 4 night workshop to local teens and parents on the dangers they face in areas such as peer pressure, sexually transmitted diseases, relationships and other “hotspots” in youth culture.  The workshop is called “Shocked with the Truth: a journey toward healthy choices” and is full of stats, video clips and stories about good and bad choices (the artwork is above).

We had great response each night and great feedback from those who attended.  I’m looking forward to many more of these in the days ahead.

Every 15 Minutes

I just got back from the third night of our presentation called “Shocked with the Truth: a journey toward healthy choices.”  At the end of the presentation about drugs and alcohol abuse by Junior, we watched the following video.  Powerful stuff.

I love leading worship!

I got to go back to the home church and lead worship at First Assembly yesterday for the morning and evening services, and it was a blast. Not much in this world infuses me with passion like leading others in the worship of Christ, and to get to do it with a great team of musicians and singers makes it that much more life-giving. Pastor Chris has done a great job building a team of worshipers and that made it easy to step in for him while he’s getting started on the dad journey after the birth of little Raegan Marie.
