The REAL Carolina
More about the win by the Gamecocks yesterday when I get home (I’m actually in the holy city today – Columbia, SC), but let’s start with a few observations:
- Phil hasn’t posted anything about the game yet, probably because his TarHeels got beaten at home
- I had another great blog post ready at halftime of the game because it looked like the Gamecocks were gonna punk the Tarheels at home, but
- I have to regroup since the Gamecocks almost choked the game away with 62 total yards in the second half
The best part of yesterday? The #1 and #2 teams lost and there’s a real possiblity that the real Carolina could be in the top 5. Of course, South Florida may very well be number 3 which is enough to blow anybody’s mind.
Gamecocks rule the roost
In a pretty weird game, South Carolina seemed like they got outplayed all night long and yet they still beat
Kentucky to take first place in the SEC East.
It’s funny how odd it sounded before the season when Steve Spurrier said the Gamecocks were ready to compete for the SEC title, but now it doesn’t seem quite as far-fetched. Of course, they’ve still got some tough games ahead of them (at UT and Arkansas and home against the Gators) and they could lose all three and end up watching the SEC Championship game from a couch somewhere.
But seeing them on top of the standings and having the head-to-head tiebreaker with Georgia and Kentucky, I’m liking where they stand today. You got to feel like if they can win 2 of their last 3 conference games, a 5-2 conference record could be enough (especially if one of those wins is against Florida).
Game – Cocks!
Game – Cocks!
(Man, I would’ve loved to have been in Columbia last night)
Huge game tonight
It’s nothing new that South Carolina and Kentucky are playing each other in a football game, or that they have similar records. What is incredible is that their records are good and they meet tonight both ranked in the top 15. Shoot, if USC was ranked one spot higher, they’d both be top 10. If the Gamecocks can pull off the win, they will be.
Postgame entry will come later. Hopefully it’ll be after a win.
