100 Pushups: W1,D1

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The web is an amazing thing. One thing leads to another which leads to another which leads to another and so on until you’ve spun a…well, you get the idea. Al Gore was brilliant when he invented it, but even brillianter when he named it. Okay, I know that “brillianter” isn’t a word, but it was fun to make up and use, so don’t sick the dictionary on me. Thanks.

So here’s an example of how the aforementioned web works: I’ve been actively following the One Hour Runner training program and am a member of the forums over at Running Ahead, a great, FREE, resource community for runners (I am using that word loosely to describe myself, of course). As I’m surfing over there, I see a link in the signature of another runner that says “100 push up training log” and I click it. That click leads me to his blog and a simple click there lands me at the one hundred push ups site. I read it, and think it looks interesting. Soon, I have a mental lapse and decide to try it. I realize I’m stuck, which is another characteristic of webs. Now, I’m keeping an eye out for the spider that will eventually paralyze me, wrap me, and eat me.

Sorry, I digress. I took the initial test and was happy to say that I did 45 push ups. Yippee. I am not in the lowest level of push-up land, and I am happy. Then I do the first day workout and my results, with one minute of rest between each set, are:

10-10-8-6-[30] for a total of 64 push ups.

That last number in the brackets is the number of push ups I was able to do until I fell into a heap of crying, blathering man-jello. Apparantly I only need to do 36 more and I will be done with the program. Yeah, right. I wish it was that easy. I’m pretty sure that the goal is to do 100 push ups at one time. Only time will tell. For now, I’m trying it out and basking in the joy of using words like “aforementioned” and “digress” in the same blog post.
