Coasting

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sometimes, it’s nice to just take the foot off the gas and coast.

The key is picking the right places to do that. Coasting uphill is never a good idea because gravity is going to work against you. In fact, you can’t coast uphill and if you try it, you’ll find that you’ll eventually coast downhill…backwards!

But not every moment of every day requires that we push the pedal to the metal and attack the next thing aggressively. Sure, all of us will encounter uphill moments when the only way to get to the top is full-throttle, but the downhill on the other side of those moments? Probably a great time to take the foot off the gas and enjoy a break.

Today, find some time to coast.

Brew an extra cup of coffee and drink it a little slower than usual.

Add a few extra minutes to your afternoon walk.

Close that spreadsheet and play Solitaire.

Allow the downhill coast to give you fresh momentum for the next uphill push.
