That is Who You are
This morning I did what I do each morning: I had a cup of coffee with Jesus early before anyone else was awake. I prayed as I listened to worship music in the background, and as I did, I kept hearing one phrase over and over:
“That is Who You are.”
I sensed the gentleness of the Holy Spirit in that moment, and so I stayed there. I thought about all the things that I’d been praying about and how most of them centered around something I wanted or needed God to do. But they weren’t singing “that is what You do” over and over again. This was a song rooted in God’s character more than God’s performance.
He is a way maker and that’s good news for those of us who are stuck.
He is a miracle worker and that’s good news for those of us in need of a miracle.
He is a promise keeper and that’s good news for those of us who have been let down and disillusioned by the empty promises of others.
He is the light in the darkness and that’s good news for those of us who are in darkness so thick that we can feel it or who love someone who is.
[Tweet “Prayer isn’t something we do to try to get God to do something.”]Prayer isn’t something we do to try to get God to do something. We don’t have to twist God’s arm to make a way or perform a miracle or keep a promise or overcome darkness with light. He does those things because He is those things.
“My God. That is Who You are!”
