Milestones

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Today, The B99 and I will celebrate the first of 3 graduations over the next 4 weeks when our son, Will, receives his degree from Queens University in Charlotte and moves the tassel.

It’s a big deal, and moments like these always are because they divide things.

One season ends and another begins. For Will. For us. For Parker next weekend and for Sydney next month.

Moments mark us, and while these moments are often called graduations, I think commencement is a much better word.

Graduations focus on ending; commencements focus on beginning.

Graduations look back; commencements look forward.

Graduations celebrate; commencements anticipate.

And in the lives of Will, Parker, Sydney, and every other student marked by the milestone of graduation, what lies ahead is far more than what lies behind.

Let’s commence!
