Have you considered?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Of course you have. In fact, you’ve considered considerably more than you think. Recent studies say that most of us have 6,200 thoughts a day. A day, y’all! That’s a lot of considering.

And yet, consider this: how many of those thoughts are about the Bible? If you’re like the majority of church people, very few. A recent study found that only about a third of Jesus followers think about Biblical truths during the day. In light of those statistics, consider this verse:

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. (Joshua‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬, emphasis mine)

With so many church trends headed in the wrong direction among younger generations, it’s easy to try to find the magic button that will reverse attendance decline and impure doctrine, but could I suggest that Joshua 1:8 already reveals the problem? So many of the engagement strategies treat the symptom, but Joshua went straight to the cause: we can’t live a prosperous and successful Christian life without meditating on God’s truth.

The word used for “meditate” literally means to mutter, ponder, growl, muse, devise, plot. Do any of those words describe your engagement level with the Bible on a daily basis? If not, the cure for an apathetic soul isn’t more lights, bass, or haze, but more Bible. Pick a book that you can understand (1 John is a great one to begin with), and read a chapter a day and then … THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU READ.

Consider it. Mull it over. Ponder it. Devise a plan for how you will apply it to your life.

Do that on a daily basis and watch your life prosper.
