Stop spinning God

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Many believers, when faced with a situation that appears to be the opposite of what God promised, feel the need to spin things to make it look like God kept His word.

Can I tell you something that I hope sets you free? We don’t need to spin God’s word because His word never fails.

For no word from God will ever fail. (Luke‬ ‭1:37‬ ‭NIV)

I get that sometimes it appears like it does, but that’s because we take God’s promises about the whole race and try to apply them at various stages during the race. The promise is that we will overcome, and we will, eventually, even though at times it seems like we aren’t.

We try to make sense of God’s word in a way that allows us to feel some sense of control, but God simply asks us to surrender our circumstances to His truth.

Resurrection requires death.

Healing requires sickness.

Redemption requires brokenness.

Reconciliation requires distance.

We love the miracles, but not the situations that demand them. We often feel as if our problems highlight God’s failures, but they are actually prerequisites for God’s faithfulness.

Until we accept this, we’ll run from the very places that reveal His greatness because they also reveal our frailty. These seasons in our lives don’t need our spin as much as they need our simple steadfastness and trust.
