Check the source

Reading Time: < 1 minute

What would you do if you turned on your faucet and brown water came out?

Call the plumber.

By the way, this did not happen recently at our house, but if it did, that’s exactly what I’d do, too.

Guess what the plumber would do? He’d dig as far into your pipes as he possibly could until he found the source of the brown stuff and fix it there.

He wouldn’t just come into your house and give you brand-new fixtures.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (‭‭John‬ ‭4:13-14‬ ‭NIV, emphasis mine)

What’s flowing out of you? So often we catch ourselves saying things that we regret or overreacting to a situation with anger, and then wondering where that came from? Jesus would say it’s coming from deep inside us. He promised something to the Samaritan woman and to all of us that would go straight to the source and change what comes out of us. The water He gives — the fresh, clean, empowering water of the Holy Spirit — washes us and wells us from us.

If your life seems dirty, maybe behavioral modification isn’t what you need. Maybe what you need is well restoration. Receive the Holy Spirit and watch how He changes what’s flowing from within you.
