Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t please everybody? Like no matte what you did, someone was going to have a problem with it?
Welcome to what it means to be human in 2021. “I’ll take ‘Deal With It’ for $200, please, Alex!”
All kidding aside, this isn’t a new problem. If you’re a leader, I know it felt like this was a 2020 thing, but it actually goes back a lot further than last year. In fact, if you feel like you can’t win no matter what you do, you’re in pretty good company. As it turns out, Jesus is in that club, too.
In Matthew 11, Jesus is talking with people about John the Baptist, and he shares something very insightful for the “I want to please everybody” leaders. He notes in verse 19 that people had a problem with how John lived and then those same people had a problem when Jesus lived in the opposite way. Even Jesus couldn’t win with people!
His response? “Wisdom is proved right by her actions.” Some translations say wisdom is shown to be right by her children. The point? The fruit of our actions is what will justify us before others; we don’t need to justify ourselves.
[Tweet “Stop worrying about being right and start focusing on doing right.”]That’s some rock solid truth, yes? Jesus basically said stop worrying about being right and start focusing on doing right and let the chips fall where they may. More often than not, the chips fall in the favor of the faithful and consistent.
