Majesty and the mundane
It’s so easy to lose God’s voice in the busyness of our days. I don’t mean that we never hear Him through prayer or the Bible, just that it can be easy to drown out His voice with all the things that compete for our attention. The mundane tends to muddy the connection.
It’s good to find places that fine-tune the frequency, and usually those places are outside. Romans 1:20 explains why:
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (Romans 1:20 NLT, emphasis mine)
It’s hard to look at waves crashing on an ocean shore or mountains of red and brown touching the sky and not hear God speaking. It isn’t so much that He audibly screams to us in these places as it is that everything else fades away and His voice seems so much louder than normal.
The majestic touches the mundane, and what had seemed like a whisper sounds like a shout.
“I am your strong tower,” the voice booms. “Nothing is too hard for me. I am your fortress, your shield, your refuge, and the power you see so clearly in the majestic has been and will continue to sustain you in the mundane.”
Wherever you may be today, friend, allow the majestic to touch the mundane, and hear Him again speaking to your soul above the fray.
“I am here.”
“I am strong.”
“I am God.”
