Nothing else
There is a fine line between just enough and a little too much, and this morning that line was somewhere between one cinnamon roll and two. They were so good, and I wasn’t full after the first one. But by the time I finished the second one, I knew I’d crossed the line.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:12 NIV, emphasis mine)
Paul learned about that line. He knew how to live content in the middle of enough, not enough, and more than enough. Instead of scrambling for more, he trusted the God of more. He knew that God was enough, and as long as he had Jesus, he needed nothing else.
It doesn’t mean I won’t eat too much of another good thing again, but it does mean that my contentment isn’t found in a good meal or in a good season of life.
Our contentment is found in Christ alone.
Nothing else will do.
