Do you Sabbath? I never used to. I always saw Sabbath as something that the people did in the Old Testament; as something that really didn’t fit with the modern age now that mankind is “all grown up” and smart.

Turns out, though, that God is a whole lot smarter. He made us, and He knows our limitations, and He knows that one of our greatest limitations is living as if we don’t have any.

He knew how much we need margin. Days and hours when there are no demands on our time. Moments when we sip coffee slowly, and don’t feel rushed as we rise to brew a second cup.

Our world is picking up the pace, and it is all too easy to fall into the trap that keeps us running with them. But just like a race when I’ve tried to run faster than I should, it doesn’t take long to burn out. Perhaps today is as good as any to draw a line in the sand and say, “Enough!”

No more rushing so fast to get the kids to practice that we don’t even enjoy the time with the kids.

No more working another side hustle just so we can buy the thing that we don’t really need anyway.

No more scrambling for more just to feel more secure, more confident, more valuable.

All of that comes from the voice we can often only hear when we are still.

Be still. Do nothing for a day, an hour, a moment, and watch something happen that you could never have imagined possible.
