Outwrite the candle

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Never underestimate the power of bite-sized accomplishments.

I light a candle each day when it’s time to write, and I blow it out each day when I’m finished.

Some days the candle burns for 30 minutes and some days it burns for 30 seconds. The goal isn’t how long it burns, but that it burns because if it’s burning, I’m writing, and if I’m writing, I’m moving toward my goal.

Today, I officially outwrote my candle.

It’s the first candle I’ve gone through in my year of writing. It took 97 days.

How will I write my next book? One candle lighting at a time.

Tomorrow, I’ll start again with a new candle.

Eventually, I’ll outwrite that one, too.
