Presence

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A phone call is wonderful.

A text is nice, too.

Even a handwritten card touches the heart.

But nothing compares to a knock on the door that reveals the face of someone you love.

Presence is the greatest present any of us can give or receive, and it’s what this season is all about.

The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”). (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:23‬ ‭NIV, emphasis mine)

God could have written about His love in the sky (and, according to Romans 1:20, He did) and called it a day.

He could have simply sent messages throughout time (and He did — through the prophets!) and let that be enough.

But He didn’t just want to communicate to us; He wanted to incarnate among us.

And so, the Word — the Word that had been spoken and written in various ways in times past (Hebrews 1:1) — became us and lived with us.

Presence changes everything. His, yours, mine.

Be present today with those to whom God sends you.
