Would you agree that all of us have been living in perhaps the most overwhelming season in recent history? Each day seems to bring a new challenge or unexpected news that just gets added to the pile of things that we haven’t been able to process because we’re still processing the thing that came before that.
Overwhelmed may be the most overused understatement of the last two years, and yet, it’s such an accurate depiction of what so many of us feel.
So, we share encouraging mantras with each other about the hustle and the grind and how early birds get worms (which for me is a great reason to stay in bed because worms are disgusting!). The end result? We just get more overwhelmed at the thought of doing anything, let alone more things.
It’s in moments like these that I always put my pants on, and I would suggest that you do the same.
When thinking about everything overwhelms you, it’s good to simply focus on doing one thing. For me, it’s taking off the pajama pants and putting on actual pants. That one simple act almost always jumpstarts a few more simple things like making the bed or brushing my teeth, and a few of those strung together says to that overwhelming pile, “I’m here. Let’s begin.”
If you’re facing a season that is overwhelming you, try putting your pants on. You’ll start the day with a win, and you’ll probably end the day with a few more.
