The beauty, power, and comfort of God’s word is palpable to me in this season. It seems that verses jump right off the page or screen, and land perfectly in my heart and soul. This nugget from a time when David was hurting is so timely.
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalms 55:22 NIV, emphasis mine)
The Hebrew word for “sustain” literally means “to take in, contain, seize, hold, endure.”
When we throw all the things (and aren’t there times when we want to throw all the things???) that weigh us down onto the Lord, He doesn’t just take the things; He takes us! He reaches out and seizes us, holds us, contains us and all that we’re feeling within Himself.
He hides us in the enormity of Who He is as the storm rages all around us, and until the storm passes.
It is in being sustained by Him that we endure with Him.
