The day after

Reading Time: < 1 minute

December 26th doesn’t get a lot of air time. Most of the attention goes to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and whatever is left on the day after Christmas usually turns into a let-down because it’s over.

But it isn’t. It’s only just begun. I think that Mary had an inkling of this after the birth of Jesus. After the rush to find the manger in time, the night sky lighting up over the hillside just out of town, and the arrival of the shepherds, out of breath but full of wonder, she wasn’t in a hurry to move on.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke‬ ‭2:19‬ ‭NIV, emphasis mine)

When a birth is as special as the birth of Jesus, you don’t just move on from it. You do what Mary did, and take some time to reflect. To treasure. To ponder.

Things that are sometimes hard to do on The Day because of all the gift-giving and meal-eating, but things that may not be so hard to do on the day after.

Find time today to ponder what the rest of your life might look like now that Jesus has been born.

The King of kings is here. What will it look like when He takes His place on the throne of your life?

The Lord of lords is with us. What will it look like when you give more weight to what He says than to what you want?

Don’t miss the often overlooked opportunity presented to you by the day after. Treasuring His birth and pondering its impact may be just the thing that turns the end of a holiday into the beginning of your destiny.
