The devil is a squatter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

According to recent statistics, squatting has become a problem.

This has nothing to do with exercise or that other thing that led to the viral success of the Squatty Potty.

It has everything to do with people taking up residence in homes that don’t belong to them, and then convincing the authorities that they do actually live there.

For many, the process of getting a squatter out is lengthy – up to six months or longer – and expensive (can you say legal fees??). All to get someone out who never actually belonged there, and has no legal right to stay there.

Sound familiar? It’s precisely what satan does to believers over and over again. He steps into places where he has no authority, and he simply stays.

I say, “to hell with the devil.”

If you weren’t blessed to live through the crazy 80s era of Christian music, then you may not realize that To Hell With The Devil was an actual song from an actual band that looked like actual bumblebees. You owe it to yourself to click this link and go listen to it. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Here’s the thing that I want to impress upon all of us: squatters typically only take up residence in empty places. They don’t break in where someone is currently living, but rather they move in to homes vacated by the death of an owner.

Which begs the question: are there empty places in your life that are open to a potential squatter?

Occasionally, we make too big a deal out of NOT doing bad things – keeping our lives free from evil – and yet, that’s not the most important thing. What matters most is living a life full of the right things, and that comes from living life with the right person.

That person is Jesus, and He once said:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV, emphasis mine)

If you want to stay free from satanic squatters, you’ve got to stay full of the One who fills us with “the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (see Ephesians 4:13).

Kick the squatter to the curb, and invite the new Owner in. Trust me, He’s more than able to keep you squatter free moving forward.
