Recently, our son proposed, and his girlfriend became his fiancé.
It all happened with a yes.
There is so much power in that three-letter word.
We partner with what we say yes to.
We attach ourselves – our hopes, dreams, fears, worries – to people and ideas through a yes.
We set ourselves apart with a yes.
In other words, when we commit ourselves to being people who say yes, it doesn’t mean that we never say no. In fact, it requires that we do say no.
Thankfully, our future daughter-in-law who already feels more like a daughter said no to an entire world full of men to say yes to our son.
Without that no, the yes would be meaningless, but because of that no, her yes means everything.
Say yes to the love of Jesus, and that yes will fuel a lifetime of no’s to everything else.
Peter spoke up and said, “But Lord, where would we go? No one but you gives us the revelation of eternal life.” (John 6:68 TPT, emphasis mine)
Like Peter, our yes has partnered us with the only One who can give us life, and that continual yes will carry us through.
For better or worse.
For richer or poorer.
In sickness and in health.
In all of these stages and seasons, we remember, and we repeat the vow we made to the One who loves us like no other.
Where else would I go, Lord?
I have given You my yes.
