2 Corinthians 5:18
All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
At some point during our crazy, cramped, and hot 6 hours of free medical treatments in the slums of Delhi, India, it dawned on me that the medical personnel that were on our team were like God. I know that I’m going to have to explain that, so give me a chance before you write me off. The doctors, nurses, and drug reps that came on this trip brought tons of medicine with them. Not just any medicine, either. They brought exactly what they knew the children and adults of Delhi would need. They had the answer, and in that light, it made them like God. He has all we could ever need, too.
Then I watched the people of the slums coming out to the clinic. They were excited, surprised, a little, well, unsure. Think about it: a team of white people in the slums of India. Something that odd could easily cause them to wonder what we were up to. But before long they started talking to the doctors and nurses. They tried to tell them what hurt, how long it had hurt, and why they didn’t like the pain. Of course, it was all in Hindi, the native language in this part of the country, and as excited as they were about the medicine that they knew could help them, they had no ability to communicate it to the ones on our team that could help them. That’s when I saw Jesus.
I didn’t see a vision, or a dream. I saw Jesus with skin on, and I became more and more fascinated with Him the longer I watched our interpreters. They were able to take what we said and communicate that with the people so that they could get the help they needed.
It would be nice to stop there and feel good about what these interpreters are doing for our team in India, but God calls you to do exactly the same thing every single day. Verse 19 goes on to say He has now called us to the same ministry. We are now the ones who listen to what the Lord says and then share it with those around us in a way they’ll understand.
When we do that, we are most like Jesus than any other time.
So, go. Go stand in the middle.
