We cracked the top ten – barely

Reading Time: < 1 minute

So a study was released from the Center for Disease Control that lists the states from most obese to least obese and our great state of North Carolina came in as the tenth most obese state with 28% of adults responding to the survey having a BMI of 30 or higher. The South is the most obese region (can ya’ll fry me up some fatback?) and the top ten really does read like the standings in the Southeastern Conference.

1. Mississippi: 32%
2. Alabama: 30.3%
3. Tennessee: 30.1%
4. Louisiana: 29.8%
5. Arkansas: 28.7%
6. West Virginia: 29.5%
7. South Carolina: 28.4%
8. Georgia: 28.2%
9. Oklahoma and Texas: 28.1%
10. North Carolina: 28%

Of course, the BMI isn’t foolproof. Most athletes that weigh more than they “should” due to muscle mass would be considered obese. Hmmmm. Maybe they simply surveyed the players at the schools of each state.
