When benefits benefit

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I love Psalm 103, and I read it often. A couple of verses near the beginning are what I want to focus on today.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, (Psalms‬ ‭103:2-4‬ ‭NIV, emphasis mine)

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, benefits only benefit us when we need them.

We need forgiveness when we sin.

We need healing when we are sick.

We need redemption from the pit when we are in, wait for it, the pit.

And we need a crown when we fell unworthy because we’ve lived lives in sin, sickness, and the pit.

I don’t know what you need today, but take the Psalmist advice to heart: forget not His benefits!
