If you’re like most drivers, you hardly give much thought to guardrails. We know what they are, and we know where they are, but we probably couldn’t say that we’ve ever really noticed them. My guess is that we probably don’t even care that they’re there.
Until we need them.
Take a turn too fast, and you’re glad that the guardrails were installed. Swerve to miss a heat-seeking squirrel, and you’ll be thankful that someone took the time to inspect the guardrails and make sure that they would hold when they were hit.
Guardrails save us, but they also hurt us. They leave a mark as they allow us to leave an accident. They correct us by redirecting us.
I’d like to submit that the 2 guardrails we need now more than ever are the guardrails of truth and transformation. Will they cause us some pain? Absolutely. To constantly ask ourselves if our lives are following the truth and if our lives are changing as a result of the truth will leave a mark. We’ll have a dent or two from the times that we get distracted and start following trends more than truth and suddenly God uses a verse or sermon or podcast to redirect us. Our pride will be scratched when friends have the courage to ask us why what we say we believe isn’t changing the way we live.
But through those very things, God is saving us. He is leading us. He is keeping us on the only road that leads to the place we all want to be.
Safe at home with Him.
